East Leake Triathlon: 31 March 2019

Carl Shaw opened his 2019 Triathlon season with a convincing win at the East Leake Sprint Triathlon, ahead of Mark Matthews (Team Freespeed) and fellow Race Hub team member Will Kirk in 3rdplace.

Carl’s time of 54’31 was just 13 seconds shy of his course record from 2010 and is easily the fastest time set since the bike course was changed in 2016.

He opened with a 5’22 swim split, which includes the run to transition (so 4’20 for 400m wall to wall give or take). Carl’s bike legs combined with his new Giant Trinity proved to be an awesome combination, resulting in the fastest bike split of the day by some margin. A 16’59 run split was easily enough to take the win by over 3 minutes in an impressive first triathlon outing of the year.

With Carl as the clear race winner, Will was engaged in a closer battle for the remaining podium places. He entered T2 in touch, but outside of the virtual top three. However, the quickest run split  of the day (16’27 5k) was enough to overturn the deficit and finish in a comfortable 3rdplace, ensuring two Race Hub representatives on the podium.

With the season just beginning there is bound to be plenty more in the tank for both athletes!

Race Hub Club members also gave a good showing in both the mens and female field.  Well done to all
